This collage explores emotional and logistical components of navigating insurance and payment structures in a complex US health system. A phone reminiscent of the 1980s has a cord tethering the figure to past alienating experiences with a fragmented system of health service delivery. The cord also encircles the neck and wrists of the foreground figure, suggesting experiences of many patients and their loved ones in entangled, ill-coordinated communications. The phone cord’s stricture is contrast to the background figure’s arms embracing the caller, responding to needs perhaps unmet during past health system encounters.
